Memel to Newcastle returns this September
The popular race returns as a 51.4km ultra marathon across two provinces.
Organisers are proud to announce that the Evotel Memel to Newcastle Run/Walk has officially become a Comrades Marathon qualifier for 2027.
The route has been officially measured at 51.4km, giving the event official ultra marathon status.
The race will take place on September 24.
Now in its 28th year, organisers look forward to welcoming back the large numbers of athletes and corporate teams that supported the event before the COVID-19 pandemic.
This year’s theme is ‘One Route, Two Provinces‘.
Race earns official ultra marathon status
Evotel returns as the title sponsor, while the event will once again be hosted by Harambe 2040 Athletics Club, which is affiliated with KwaZulu-Natal Athletics.
Official timing for all individual competitors and relay teams will be provided by Finish Time.
Changan will supply the lead vehicles for all four race categories:
- Individual Run
- Individual Walk
- Team Run
- Team Walk
- Teams and supporters invited to take part
Relay teams consist of five members. The first four runners or walkers will each complete 10km, with the final team member covering the remaining 11.4km.
Although all 18 water tables have already been sponsored by local businesses, there are still several opportunities for individuals and companies to support the event.
