Forderville family plagued by illegal dumping

Garden and domestic waste from neighbouring homes is being dumped on an open field next to the family’s home

Illegal dumping is a widespread and messy problem that affects businesses and households alike in Estcourt, say residents.

Such as the case of the Kanai family in Dahlia Road.

Heaps of garden and domestic waste is dumped in the vacant field adjacent to the family’s home. Mr Kanai believes that the dumped material is waste from other people’s gardens in the area.

In an effort to curb the dumping, the family members question people they have witnessed dumping, but he says this leads to verbal altercations.

The smell of effluent also drifts in the air and Mr Kanai reports that the stench could be from a blocked or leaking sewer close to the vacant field.

He says the smell becomes unbearable at times. The family appeals to the municipality to enforce the by-laws pertaining to illegal dumping, suggesting that a ‘No Dumping’ signboard could be a start.

“When I have the time, I clean up the area, but this should not be happening,” said Mr Kanai.
