Protesters demand that the mayor step down

Police and Public Safety officers were at the scene of the protest

Over 200 taxis converged at the bottom of Murchison Street today (January 6) as part of a protest action that saw members of the Klipriver Taxi Association making their way to the Town Hall to hand over a memorandum. Community members also joined the protest.

The protesters are not happy with the current state of the local municipality, and are demanding that Mayor Vincent Madlala step down.

Grievances in the memorandum include corruption and misuse of taxpayers’ money by the mayor himself.

Police and Public Safety officers monitored the protest.
