The waiting game continues for the Ratepayers Association

Ratepayers Association still waiting to have 'urgent meeting' with administrator

It’s again a waiting game for the Ratepayers Association, as they await a response from municipal administrator Dumisani Vilakazi to discuss administrative and service delivery concerns.

At the association’s last meeting on November 25, it was unanimously agreed that a letter be sent the following day, requesting an ‘urgent meeting’ with Mr Vilakazi.  After this process was followed, there has been no reply.

Ratepayers Association chairperson Mahomed Osman confirmed on Monday that he was awaiting a response from the administrator and had received no feedback since the meeting.

The association has been trying to secure a meeting with Mr Vilakazi since August 7, after the scheduled meeting was postponed at the last minute due to a death in his family.

After that, it was a three-month silence from both the association and administrator before a handful of ratepayers prompted the call for an urgent meeting in November.

At November’s meeting, those present also agreed that should no action be taken by the administrator to address serious concerns, matters should be escalated to provincial and national government.

The concerns include over-staffing, outstanding debt and poor service delivery.  It was also agreed that a mass meeting that encompasses all rate-paying sectors be called to update the community.
