Delport Media Distributors (DMD) has given Jo Anne Collyer a chance to fulfil her lifelong dream of becoming a dressmaker.
The incentive not only benefitted Nil Desperandum resident, Jo Anne, but various other nonprofit organisations in Newcastle such as Home Meah, the Crisis Centre and the SPCA.
Residents from Nil Desperandum receive a new sewing machine from DMD.
Jo Anne explained the sewing machine had instilled a new sense of pride and joy in the residents who stay at the facility.
“We are so excited to make use of our new piece of equipment. We create various handcrafted goods such as handbags, aprons and key chains. Every item we create is made with love and with the new sewing machine, we look forward to improving our creativity.”
With the idea brought forward by Neels Delport, owner of DMD, he personally felt the community needed a boost in morale and sought an opportunity to give back to those who worked tirelessly to ensure a better future for the residents.
The company reached out to various installers from Newcastle, who contributed to a lucky draw with a variety of prizes, ranging from gate motors to electronic door systems. After the lucky draw took place, the winners could gift the same prize to a nonprofit organisation of their choice.
Phyllis Papenfus was one of the lucky draw winners, who received a brand new sewing machine from the Elna division at DMD, and chose to gift it to Nil Desperandum. She explained how grateful she felt to have had the opportunity to change someone’s life:
“Making a difference, no matter how small, is never undervalued. I chose this organisation because they truly inspire me with their efforts.”
