Gogo Mlambo was ecstatic at a visit from the Newcastle Mayoress, Dr Busi Mahlaba, and Newcastle Speaker of Council, Samkelisiwe Yende, as she celebrated her birthday at her home in Osizweni on February 9.

Gogo Mlambo’s birthday was no ordinary celebration, as she turned 100. She expressed how grateful she was for her life:

“It’s all praise to God that I am still alive today and celebrating my 100th birthday. I am lost for words. Having such important people in my home is another blessing, I am thankful for everyone who took their time and spent it with me. Even my church members made an exceptional day for me. I feel very special.”

Cllr Yende added she was blessed to celebrate with Gogo Mlambo:

“I want to say happy birthday to Gogo, and wish her good health. It’s not common for people to reach a 100 of years. She emphasised the power of God, and I want to reiterate on that and say we must all keep praying over our lives. Seeing how jolly and beautiful she is, is the most amazing thing to witness.”
