For 48 years, the best of schoolboy rugby has been served up at Sarel Cilliers High School.
The serving will be just as tasty and filling this Friday and Saturday, with teams from schools in KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng and the Free State competing on three fields.
It will be the girls who get the festival underway as early as 1pm on Friday afternoon, with a Sarel team taking on a side from Mandla Mthethwa School. Thereafter, the host school’s under-14, -15 and -16 teams take on visitors from Amanzimtoti High.
The Vaalpark versus Felixton game will be the Friday evening highlight, with the ‘ou manne’ fom Sarel and Sentraal rolling back the years in two games at 6.50pm and 8pm respectively.
On Saturday, the action starts at 8am on all three fields. Highlights include the Ferrum High/Maritzburg College clash at 11.30am, the Dundee High/Greytown game at 3pm, and the Welkom Gim/Vryheid game at 4.10pm. The headline game features Sarel Cilliers taking on the might of Voortrekker of Pietermaritzburg at 5.20pm.
As always, Sarel Cillers will provide top hospitality and the occasion will be an opportunity to catch up with old rugby friends.
Dave van der Westhuizen, Rugby Day co-ordinator, said all are welcome but requested spectators refrain from bringing alcohol or food into the grounds.
Refreshments will be sold at the venue.
