Dr Joseph Shabalala’s funeral to take place today in Ladysmith
Those attending will have the chance to bid farewell to a legend who touched many hearts with his soulful music
Dr Joseph Shabalala, the late founder of Grammy Award winning choral group Ladysmith Black Mambazo, will be laid to rest today (February 22) in his hometown of Ladysmith. The funeral is the talk of the town at the moment, as famous and important people will be attending. Media from around the world will also be there.
Those attending will have the chance to bid farewell to a legend who touched many hearts with his soulful music. Police and Public Safety officials will be working to make sure everything runs smoothly and there is no chaos regarding traffic.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has declared a Special Official Funeral Category 2 in honour of Dr Joseph Shabalala. President Ramaphosa has ordered that the National Flag be flown at half-mast at every flag station in the country until the evening of February 22.
Dr Joseph Shabalala passed away on Tuesday, February 11, at the age of 79 after a long illness. The day he died, tributes started pouring in from all around the world.
Today’s funeral will start at the Indoor Sports Complex in Dry Road and will then proceed to Steadville.
