On Friday night at approximately 6pm, a black Volkswagen Golf and an Eskom branded bakkie collided on the R34 near Matatane. The five occupants of the Golf were said to have been heading towards their homestead in the Ulundi-Mahlabathini area, when the two vehicles collided head-on. Eskom employee and resident in the Vryheid area, Bongumusa Sibisa was driving the bakkie. All six people involved in the collision were killed and a case of culpable homicide has been opened at the Glückstadt Police Station. Bonginkosi Nkosi, a relative of the deceased, told police his brothers were on their way from Johannesburg to Mahlabathini at the time of the collision.
