uThukela release statement on water issues affecting Ladysmith

Infrastructure was vandalised in the Ezakheni area, which in turn affected water supply

Many areas of Ladysmith were without water today (March 2), which left people wondering why.

uThukela District Municipality released the following message with regards to the issue…

Water infrastructure was vandalised in the Ezakheni area, which affected water supply to the following sections: A, D, C3, E and St Chad’s. The Operations team is currently attending to the problem.

It is anticipated that water will be received by the community at about 6am tomorrow morning (March 3).

In another incident, there was a break-in at sewer pump station no. 2, no. 4 and no. 7 in Steadville, where electrical cables were stolen.

The Operations team will have to try and prevent sewage from being discharged into the Klip River.

The matter has been reported to the police.

uThukela also has the same problem in Colenso with regards to theft and vandalism.
