Swiss tourist rescued after fall in the Drakensberg

The hiker had taken a serious fall in the Cathkin Park area

Paramedics and resort staff acted quickly to assist a Swiss tourist that had taken a fall while hiking in the Drakensberg yesterday (March 13).

KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service was called to the scene in Cathkin Park after they received reports of an injured hiker.

 

“When paramedics arrived at a resort, staff escorted the paramedics for about 2km to the tourist from Switzerland who was hiking and sustained serious injuries after taking a fall. The patient was stabilised on scene and then carried back to the resort, with the help of the resort staff,” said KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service spokesperson Craig Botha.

The injured hiker was treated on scene before being transported to hospital for further medical treatment.
