Mediclinic Newcastle withdraws visiting hours – UPDATE

"We are not the only hospital group to make this change; it is in the hospital's best interest to aid the fight against Covid-19."

From April 1, all visiting hours at Mediclinic Newcastle will be withdrawn. Hospital spokesperson, Mathys Bornman told the Newcastle Advertiser this decision was a crucial one.

“We are not the only hospital group to make this change; it is in the hospital’s best interest to aid the fight against Covid-19.”

A press statement from Mediclinic Newcastle explained there would be exceptions to these measures:

  • Visitors to NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) – one patient at a time
  • Visitors to the paediatric unit – one parent may ‘live in’ with the child
  • Visitors to the maternity unit – the father/partner may visit
  • Visitors to critically ill patients – visits per arrangement with hospital management

“Mediclinic would like to emphasise that everyone within the healthcare sector is working together to fight the pandemic. We encourage communities to adhere to the lockdown and distancing efforts, and to observe all measures put in place within the hospital to ensure the safety of our patients.”
