100 up for Dundee’s grand senior citizen

She was an active member of the Dundee Methodist Church Women's Auxiliary for 50 years.

Marie Chivers (nee Fynn), born in Pietermaritzburg on March 24, 1920, has turned 100!

She is the only remaining of five children, and out of her three own children, she still has her son with whom she has lived in Dundee since 2005.

Marie is a descendant of one of KwaZulu-Natal’s well known founders, Henry Francis Fynn, who was her great-great-grandfather. Her grandfather was a magistrate in the Msinga District during the mid 1880s.

Marie (also known as Mom, Granny and GG to her family) lived most of her life between Pietermaritzburg, New Hanover, Greytown and for the past number of years, Dundee. She has had the privilege of seeing both her granddaughters born and is known to them as GG.

Marie was still doing a lot of things at home until about 18 months ago: knitting, crochet, writing letters, making jams, baking biscuits and if really necessary, when asked she was still able to cook a full meal. She is a member of the Dundee Methodist Church and was an active member of the Women’s Auxiliary for 50 years.

“As a family, we would like to tell her that we love and appreciate her for who and what she is.”
