SANBS explains why donating blood is safe

Blood donors are urged to help boost blood stocks during the national lockdown.

The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) is committed to safety first, in light of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

As essential service, SANBS will still be operational and is encouraging residents to continue to donate blood – also deemed an essential service. Donor centres have also extended their operating hours to accommodate social distancing measures.

Residents have been urged to do their part to ensure blood stocks are sufficient, and SANBS has reiterated why visiting a donor centre is safe despite the threat of the coronavirus, and the measures it is taking to safeguard staff and visitors.
