Dundee SAPS charges 27 for breaking lockdown regulations

SAPS urges residents to report any unlawful activities by calling 034 299 9700 or 034 299 9786.

A total of 27 residents have been arrested since March 27, for flouting the 21-day national lockdown regulations.

Dundee SAPS spokesperson, Captain Veli Mbense confirmed those arrested had been charged, among others, for being in possession of liquor, selling non-essential goods, travelling without the necessary permit and operating a business without the necessary permits. Several taxi drivers were also charged for failing to comply with restrictions regarding the transport of passengers.

Capt Mbense appealed to all residents to abide by the regulations, adding that ‘everyone must take the lockdown seriously’.

“Please report any unlawful activities to the SAPS at 034 299 9700 or 034 299 9786 – you are not compelled to provide a name.”

Capt Mbense also reminded those arranging funerals of the relevant regulations. This includes providing proof that the gathering is for a funeral, ensuring no more than 50 people attend, obtaining a copy or certified copy of the death certificate, having a list of those attending the funeral and, if necessary, a permit to travel should funeral arrangements entail travelling from one province to another.
