Local political parties want a councillor from the Peacetown area to be dismissed immediately. This comes after the councillor was arrested last week for allegedly stealing JoJo tanks that were meant for water relief in Peacetown during the lockdown period.
“As the National People’s Ambassador (NPA), we want this councillor to be dismissed with immediate effect. We are tired of leaders who are corrupt and steal from their own communities,” said Nathi Mthethwa from the NPA.
“We are very disappointed with regards to this incident. We hope that government will do something about councillors who steal,” said Abbas Warasally from the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP).

According to provincial police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala, a 42-year-old man and a 45-year-old man were arrested in Peacetown after two JoJo tanks were stolen. The two suspects were arrested on April 30.
A case of theft was opened at Ladysmith police station after the two tanks were recovered at the premises of the arrested suspects.
The councillor is an ex police official. Both men were granted bail of R2000.
