Covid-19 update: No new cases in Amajuba

Dr Musa Ngubane offers clarity on the confusion on social ,media regarding the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Amajuba.

There are no new confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the Amajuba District, contrary to social media posts which are doing the rounds tonight.

The office of the KZN Premier, Sihle Zikalala, informed media that there were 10 confirmed cases during his visit to Madadeni Hospital today, referring to the eight cases that were confirmed at healthcare facilities in the Amajuba District since the start of the epidemic, as well as two residents of Amajuba who tested positive at healthcare facilities outside the district.

District mayor and head of the Amajuba Response Team to the coronavirus epidemic, Dr Musa Ngubane, confirmed that these are the only known cases of Covid-19 in the area, other than one patient, a resident of the Umzinyathi District, who tested positive at MediClinic Newcastle this week.

It is untrue that there are 10 additional cases of Covid-19 at Madadeni Hospital. According to Dr Ngubane, there are three patients who were admitted into the hospital’s isolation facility because they were showing flu-like symptoms. These patients were tested for the coronavirus and are being treated as persons under suspicion of Covid-19 until their test results come back. There are, however, no confirmed cases of Covid-19 currently admitted at Madadeni Hospital.
