Critically injured airlifted to Pietermaritzburg

A decision was taken to activate the AMS helicopter

KwaZulu-Natal Private Ambulance Services were dispatched to the Zungwini area on Saturday morning for an accident.
A tractor-and-trailer-combo transporting sand allegedly overturned while going down a hill. Community members took matters into their own hands and freed the driver when they established that he was severely injured. They then loaded him onto a bakkie and took him to a nearby homestead for easy access when paramedics arrived. When the emergency crew got to the scene, it was determined that the male patient had sustained a fracture to his right leg, as well as abdominal and spinal injuries. Due to the rugged terrain and time delay, a decision was taken to activate the AMS helicopter, which could only be accommodated at Holkrans Estate. The patient was airlifted to Pietermaritzburg for further care.
