[JUST IN] Another municipal employee tests positive for Covid-19

The Newcastle Municipality Tower Block will be closed until Sunday, July 12.

The Newcastle Municipality Communications Unit has confirmed that two employees have been diagnosed with Covid-19 and are currently in isolation, in line with Department of Health protocols.

Therefore, the Newcastle Municipality Tower Block will be temporarily closed from today (July 9) until Sunday (July 12).

“Two units have been closed until necessary disinfection and decontamination measures are conducted,” explained Head of Communications, Mlungisi Khumalo. “Employees who have been in contact with the said staff members will also undergo testing and self isolation.”

As a precautionary measure and to ascertain the extent of the risk of exposure of other employees, added Khumalo, the Tower Block would close while staff stay home until the entire building has been decontaminated.

“Essential frontline staff will continue to work remotely and render basic services to the community,” he assured residents. “The municipality would like to wish its staff members, and other members of the public who have been diagnosed with Covid-19, a speedy recovery.”
