Deron aims higher on big new jumps during lockdown

When he practices on the new jumps, the McMaster brothers are there watching over him, giving him tips and plenty of advice

Deron Faurie (17) is a fired-up teenager with a love for downhill mountain biking. However, his adrenaline has been put on hold during the current lockdown period; he is at home and not allowed to race competitively, which he says is the real thrill.

But this hasn’t stopped Deron from finding an amazing way to fuel his passion in his very own backyard.

He has built a series of jumps and obstacles to keep him going on two wheels! From the driveway, Deron builds up speed on his Rocky Mountain bicycle and makes the jumps look easy as he reaches a height of almost two metres into the air. He also built a berm (tight corner) to help him keep up with his practice.

From the jumps at his home, Deron has now stepped up his game by taking on some new massive jumps that have been built at a ground in town.

Deron says he was inspired by the McMaster brothers, who are also involved in downhill biking, and wanted to join them. This has now become a reality for him…

When he practices on the new jumps, the McMaster brothers are there watching over him, giving him tips and plenty of advice.

With a smile on his face, Deron says, “I have had numerous falls, but this doesn’t stop me from getting back on my bike and taking another leap.” Deron says he gets a lot of “air time” on the new jumps, as he manages to get four or five metres into the air before landing on the ground again.
