Fire near Ramakrishna Temple destroys lapa

A veld fire spread due to high winds

An old thatched lapa next door to the Ramakrishna Temple was destroyed in a veld fire after high winds spread the fire this afternoon (Saturday, July 11).

Firefighters were at the scene within minutes and brought the blaze under control. One fire engine was deployed.

No one was injured.

Speaking to the firefighters who responded, they stressed that they were having a busy day with small fires getting out of control.

They urge community members to take care when lighting fires, especially in these windy conditions.
