Two nabbed for transporting alcohol

“They were arrested for transporting liquor from Newcastle to Durban"

Just two days after President Cyril Ramaphosa imposed an immediate suspension of the sale, dispensing and distribution of alcohol, Estcourt police arrested two people for transporting liquor.

Police officers were patrolling the N3 yesterday (July 14) at about 6.30pm when a truck and its contents came under their radar.

When the truck’s trailer was opened, a large amount of alcohol was found. Two males aged between 34 and 43 were immediately apprehended.

“They were arrested for transporting liquor from Newcastle to Durban. They were driving Imperial truck at the time of their arrest,” commented police spokesperson Captain Bongani Nyathi.

The men were detained at the Estcourt police station and later granted bail. They are expected to appear in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court soon.
