Weenen community welcomes hearty donation

This donation was to support the foundation’s Covid-19 disaster response and hunger alleviation food parcel project

Community members in Weenen were in for a surprise recently. They had been informed that the Gift of the Givers would be distributing food items in four areas in Wards 20, 21 and 22, little did they know what would be in store for them.

The Gift of the Givers team set off early to distribute 200 large food parcels to residents in GombaMsuluzi, Emsobotsheni, Enhlawe and Emkholombe.

One of the happy beneficiaries.

The food parcels were donated by Woolworths and consisted of fresh produce. This donation was to support the foundation’s Covid-19 disaster response and hunger alleviation food parcel project.

“The recipients were extremely grateful and appreciative. When they saw the size of the parcels they were left speechless, people were speaking amongst themselves asking each other how are they going to carry all those things,” commented Gift of the Givers Estcourt representative Jaaved Khan.

The distribution lasted into the evening hours and Mr Khan sends his appreciation to councillors Mvelase, Mncube and Dladla for their assistance.

Jaaved Khan hands over a food parcel to one of the residents.

“They were with us from start to finish and assisted us with offloading also,” he said.
