Heeding a call for help in Newcastle

Most of the families had fallen on hard times, especially during the national lockdown

A call for help from Newcastle made its way to the Gift of the Givers Estcourt branch recently.

“We received an email from Merylene Bisesar who requested assistance for 25 families from the Riazville complex,” explained Jaaved Khan.

Ms Bisesar explained that most of the families had fallen on hard times, especially during the national lockdown.

25 families from Riazville complex in Newcastle received assistance from the Gift of the Givers.

“Majority of the recipients were single parents and unemployed people,” added Mr Khan.

The team from Estcourt set off to Newcastle last Wednesday morning armed with large food parcels. Generously donated by Woolworths, the food parcels contained fresh produce as well as grocery items.

Two of the residents that benefited from the food parcel handover.

“We made their day when we handed out the 25 large Woolworths food parcels to them. They were extremely grateful for the parcels,” commented Mr Khan.
