Eagles saved from blaze by fast-thinking community and firefighters
The tree was burning at a rapid rate due to the claw creeper

A fire spread to a tree at the back of Sondela Service Station last night (August 3), which started off as just smouldering embers.
The tree that caught alight is well-known for housing an eagles’ nest. The fire was thus a concern for many, as they feared for the safety of the birds.
Fast-acting community members and people from the garage jumped into action by alerting the fire department, who in turn responded to the scene.

The tree was burning at a rapid rate due to the claw creeper that extends up the trunk, and the flames were heading in the direction of the eagles’ nest.
Firefighters, with the help of the community, managed to put out the fire and save the birds from potential harm.
This morning (August 4), the eagles were still in the area and safe.
