Sustaining the community, one meal at a time

Hunger is a grim reality for many communities, and the Food for Life Estcourt branch knows this.

Ward 10 Councillor Edith Lite, Lokeshwar Das, Philisiwe Dladla and Veronica Penniston packing the meals before they’re distributed.

In an effort to keep hunger at bay in and around Estcourt, the dedicated team has made it their mission to ensure that they reach and feed these communities.

In honour of Women’s Day, as well as the Appearance Day of Lord Krishna (both commemorated in August), the Food for Life Estcourt team fed 400 people on Monday.

Thanks to the generous sponsorship from Omie, Rupa and Nally Sewparsan Mohan, a nutritious home-cooked meal was prepared.

With the help of Ward 10 Councillor Edith Lite, the meals were distributed to residents at Khwezi Hostel and in Forderville.

“We distributed 350 meals with Edith and 50 meals to Forderville residents; a total of 400 meals of breyani with soya chunks and dhall. Our next ‘feed’ brings us to a milestone for our branch; it’ll take us to 5000 meals since inception last year,” said Lokeshwar Das from the Food for Life Estcourt branch.

If you would like to sponsor a meal for a community in need, please call Lokeshwar Das on 072-765-5733.
