Con artist callers are on the prowl again

SAPS warn public against doing business with ''faceless callers"

Despite the recent and well-publicised demise of so-called investment schemes that sprung up in town in recent months, the public continues to be swindled out of their hard-earned cash.

Dundee SAPS are dealing with several cases where members of the public have paid thousands of rands into a bank account after being called on their cell-phones by con-artists who tempted them with huge investment returns.

Another scam doing the rounds sees callers posing as cell-phone company workers. They target victims by calling them on their cell-phones and asking if they ‘want to do a SIM swap on their phone’.

In yet another scam, people selling cars, furniture and other goods online are not always what they appear to be. Dundee SAPS said they had received several complaints where people wishing to buy goods had paid money into an account and not received what they had paid for.
