Amy’s project inspires people from Melbourne to Newcastle

It's not too late to join the 'Across the Oceans' family and make a difference.

Using her platform for a greater good, winner of the Miss Newcastle pageant in 2015, Amy Read (nee Bushell) may be living her dream in Australia, but her heart remains firmly in Newcastle, South Africa.

Amy and her husband Neville emigrated to mellow Melbourne two years ago and she has openly yearned for her family, friends and South African delicacies ever since.

After a cancelled trip back home in April this year due to Covid-19 global restrictions, Amy felt strongly about spearheading a project to unite people, help them stay positive, work towards a common goal and ‘feel connected to something’. Thus, Across the Oceans was born.

“The international running event began as an initiative to raise much-needed funds for local nonprofit organisation, Home Meah – a 24-hour care centre for abused, neglected and unwanted babies and toddlers,” explained Amy.

Participants from across the globe were encouraged to run as far as they could and donate to the project via Amy’s crowdfunding post on popular site, Backabuddy.
