NEWCASTLE: Child (11) stabbed to death in Madadeni, police search for suspects

Madadeni SAPS is urging residents to come forward with information on the murder and the suspect's whereabouts.

The brutal murder of 11-year-old Owesihle Mdlalose last week (October 1) has left a family in tatters.

According to sources, the young girl’s body was found by a family member in a house in Section 5, Madadeni, not far from where she lived. She was stabbed multiple times in her torso.

The family member raised the alarm and police officials have since launched an investigation. Spokesperson for Madadeni SAPS, Captain Mandlenkosi Nkosi said the service believes Thamsanqa Surprize Cele (22) can provide them with critical information into the murder case. Cele was last seen in the Madadeni area.

By Sunday, Madadeni residents took to the streets to express their anger and frustration at the killing. Fikile Dlamini, who organised the march, said residents are sick and tired of the violence and want the full might of the law to be served, when the perpetrator is eventually found.

Residents take to the streets to protest against the young girl’s murder.

Brigadier Jay Naicker, from the Office of the SAPS Provincial Commissioner for KwaZulu-Natal, has appealed to members of the public with information on the case to contact investigating officer, Warrant Officer Skhumbuzo Mntambo on 063 187 2666, Branch Commander, Lieutenant-Colonel Sanele Mkhwananzi on 082 376 3067 or Crimestop on 08600 10111.

The family of Owesihle spoke to the Newcastle Advertiser about their grief and horror at the girl’s brutal murder. Read this week’s edition (October 8) for more details.
