ESTCOURT KZN: Elderly man escapes injury after large tree branch falls on his car
"I got the fright of my life"
An 80-year-old man says he is lucky to be alive after a large tree branch fell on his car while he was driving past Princess Park at about 2pm this afternoon (April 19).
Mohammed Sahib says he noticed a person waving a flag, as if to slow traffic down and when he saw there were no other vehicles, he drove by.
Suddenly a large, thick branch from a tree fell onto the windscreen of his car.
Tree felling was underway in the vicinity of Princess Park.
“I got the fright of my life and just drove on. I am lucky to be alive,” said the visibly shaken Mr Sahib whose vehicle is a visible wreck.
Mr Sahib as well as family members that had gathered on scene believe that prominent signage should have been available to alert motorists that tree felling was in progress.
“The contractors should have diverted traffic through the road at Princess Park. This is dangerous and there were no visible signs except for a man waving a flag, which could’ve meant anything, like they were cutting the grass,” said Mr Sahib’s son.
