DHS: Dundee High hockey players glad to be back out on the field

On Saturday, DHS had the privilege to play their first hockey games of the season. The long-anticipated season has finally returned to Dundee High School and it was greeted by friendly smiles and excited players. The Spartan Representatives were thrilled to make hockey-playing history by taking on Mount Richmore for the first time.

The morning was cool, but did not dampen the spirits of all the ladies on the field, who were ready to give their all for the love of the game. Despite a lack of training, the Spartan squad rounded up all their strength and fought their hardest against an equally talented team and were able to take home a win of 2-0. T

he goals were delivered into the net by Amahle Potgieter and Nobunto Radebe. The player of the match was Aphiwe Shabangu, who poured her heart into the game. Thanks to Mr Ayob for his guidance; this season is going to be spectacular.

Boys’ hockey

First of all, deepest condolences to Nandos (first team boys’ hockey coach), who lost his fiancé the day before the match. He provided such amazing support on Saturday – we could not have done it without him.

It was a very long and hard-fought first half between the two teams, but in the third chucker, Hein Muller managed to break through the Mount Richmore defence and score the first goal for Dundee High. To seal things off, Amahle Mdubeki managed to score a second goal in the fourth chucker for a final score of 2-0 to DHS.

Thando Zuke and Sinakho Myeza made exceptional runs with the ball, and Amahle Mdubeki stood out with his world-class passes into the D. It was an outstanding performance from the boys and a well-deserved victory for the team. DHS would like to keep this momentum going into the season, and we really appreciate the support from the parents and students who were shouting from the road.

“Ek is so trots op ons atlete wat eintlik nog besig is met fiksheid, en natuurlik was Nandos die braafste van almal. Ons het hom regtig nie daar verwag nie, maar sy raad en leiding is absoluut so nodig vir die seuns. Ek haal my hoed af dat hy daar was. Hy sê dis waar dit vir hom en Andile begin het.” (Mrs Raffenberg, first team boys’ hockey manager)
