Ladysmith KZN: Old rusted light pole collapses outside police station

Shop owners are wondering if the streetlights will be working tonight

A streetlight pole fell onto the fence surrounding the police station, in Murchison Street, today (April 22).

This now poses a danger to passing pedestrians walking along the pavement. “The power cables are left exposed, so how do we walk here? What happens if a child touches the exposed wires?” questioned one pedestrian.

Shop owners in Murchison Street are wondering if the streetlights will be working tonight.

Rust had set in and the pole finally gave up the ghost, leaning over and resting its weary ‘body’ on the police station fence.

The municipality has been approached for comment, but none had been received at the time of publishing.
