Ladysmith KZN: Illegal dumping becomes the norm in residential areas

"This is not acceptable behaviour"

The corner of Bengal and Centenary Road has become an unsightly dumpsite.

A young female was driving into Bengal Road when she noticed smoke in the air. This is because someone had lit the rubbish on the corner and then left it to burn.

The motorist says she is shocked at how residents can just burn rubbish that has been illegally dumped in the first place and think nothing of it. “That is not acceptable human behaviour. Why do we have to live in an area that is filthy? Why can’t people stop their illegal dumping?” she questions.

“It’s not only polluting the air, but also damaging the health of residents living nearby,” she adds.

She and others in the neighbourhood are now encouraging people to stop this ‘societal scourge’. “It’s an eyesore and a blight upon the cleanliness of the town,” she concluded.
