DUNDEE KZN: And the winners are….
A huge thank you to all who entered the competition

A huge thank you to all who entered our photography competition run in May.
The standard of entries were so high, that choosing a winner proved quite difficult. Congratulations to the following winners and the honourable mentions:
ANIMALS
Winner – Caryn Robberts

Honourable Mentions:

NATURE:
Winner – Melissa Gilbert

Honourable Mentions:

PEOPLE:
Winner – Vernen Naicker

Honourable Mention:

The people category was judged by professional photographer, Tersia Olivier who was torn between these two photos.
” In the People category it’s a close call between Melissa Gilbert and Vernen Naicker.
Feedback on Melissa’s photo:
- Good composition of the photo – excellent depth of field
- Subject is well exposed – photo quality is crisp and clear
- The contrast of the purple dress against the dark forest works well
- The mood of the photo is whimsical (loving the ray of sunlight near her feet)
Feedback on Vernen’s photo:
- Goes against every rule of photography
- Rule of third not applied
- Angle would have worked better if the photographer had taken the photo at the same level of the child
- Taken with a smart phone so can’t really judge exposure, depth of field, focus etc. as these are automatic
- A brilliant photo nonetheless because of the emotion captured. The smile on the boy’s face, the twinkle in his eye and his muddy boots, tell a beautiful story.
Overall, Vernen’s photo is my choice!
