VRYHEID KZN: Vryheid triumphs over Sentraal in first clash

The Vryheid teams showed once again why they are a force to be reckoned with

It’s been a long stretch without any sport since lockdown was imposed in the country more than a year ago. The green light was finally given for local and professional sportsmen and women to compete again, even though under strict Covid-19 protocols. On Saturday, Vryheid Rugby Club’s first and second teams engaged in their first game of the season against Sentraal’s first and second teams. Even though there were no spectators to cheer the teams on, the players were still ‘hungry’ and eager to get onto the field after the long absence. Within the first few minutes of the game, the second team steamrolled over Sentraal with a ‘flying through the air’ first try which was converted by the fly-half. The game was on… and Sentraal was fighting back, but only managed to add seven points to the scoreboard, compared to the 38 points of Vryheid. The clash between the two first teams was tougher and the Vryheid team had to work hard to gain territory, but with momentum and teamwork, they managed to put the first points on the board with a penalty kick. Sentraal fought back and came close to the try line a few times, but the Vryheid team was stronger and kept Sentraal at bay. The game ended with a final score of 20-0. The Vryheid teams showed once again why they are a force to be reckoned with. Good luck for the next game!
