Ladysmith KZN: Pieters road blocked by protesters

This is due to the ongoing rift between parents and local school Silindokuhle Secondary

Today (June 3), angry residents have blocked the Pieters road that passes the Tsakane location. This is due to the ongoing rift between parents and local school Silindokuhle Secondary.

Parents of children at the school have blocked the road, demanding that the members of the School Governing Body (SGB) who were arrested yesterday be released. The SGB members were arrested during the protest, which has been ongoing since Monday. The parents are also demanding that the MEC for Education come and resolve the issues pertaining to this school.

The school is closed and the parents say they want the principal and some of the teachers to be fired. They claim that the principal has failed to perform his duties and that he is colluding with certain teachers who are not committed to doing their work.

According to the protesting parents, they have submitted a memorandum with the list of teachers they want to be kicked out of the school. They add that the Department of Education has missed the seven-day deadline for responding.

Public Safety officials are controlling traffic and redirecting motorists on alternative routes.
