Ladysmith KZN: Fiber Internet construction company causes havoc?

Concerned residents say they were not formally informed about the construction and that the workers are damaging their property

Residents in Stevenson Road are complaining about the construction company that is installing fiber Internet in their area. They say the workers are damaging plants and driveways, and they were not formally informed about the construction. Now they don’t know who to turn to with their grievances.

The residents add that there is a lack of communication regarding this project. They claim that if they demand to see paperwork before the digging starts, the workers always give them ‘attitude’. Another complaint is that the work begins really early in the mornings, disturbing the entire neighbourhood.

However, what concerns homeowners the most is the damage being done to driveways, plants and grass. “It’s just left like that and nothing is done about the situation,” fumed one homeowner who would like to remain anonymous.

Mr SW Ntusi, assistant manager of Operations & Maintenance at Alfred Duma Local Municipality, has assured the residents that his department will look into the matter and make sure that construction companies comply with all the municipal bylaws. He said that those who do not comply will have their permits suspended.
