DUNDEE KZN: Gearing up for Tourism Dundee Clean Up Day, June 16

Volunteers are also asked to come forward to help clean up

Mayor Mdluli whetted his appetite today ahead of the Tourism Dundee Clean Up Campaign on Youth Day, Wednesday June 16.

The Mayor toured various parts of the town with Tourism Dundee chairman, Naresh Gopie. He also inspected various service delivery complaints in Forestdale and in other areas. Youth Day has been chosen for a clean-up campaign in the Dundee central business district, supported by Endumeni Municipality. Volunteers are urged to come forward to assist.

The day will start at 9am from the Tourism Office. Refreshments and a wors roll will be given to each volunteer for their support. The central business district will be targeted for the clean-up this time around. Mayor Mdluli will also support the event, as will Mr Happiness (life coach) and motivational speaker Eugene Mahlaba. Refreshments will also be available. For details, contact the Tourism Office on 034-218-2837.

Summary of the planned clean up route:   Plans are to meet at Tourism office at 8.30am on June 16. By then the Municipality should have ready: pickers, bags, gloves All volunteers will be registered by Patricia Zoya Toursim Dundee officer and given stickers to make the distribution of wors rolls afterwards equal and fair We will then proceed to the Gladstone Street traffic circle where the volunteers will be broken up into two groups: A and B groups.

A group will proceed down Beaconsfield Street, clean up as they go in a merry manner. The group will then split again to allow a team to go up Willson Street to clean up to Victoria Street, do a U turn and rejoin their colleagues, down Beaconsfield Street, into Smith Street, adjacent to the taxi rank.

Team B meanwhile will proceed down Gladstone Street over Victoria Street and left into McKenzie. When they reach the Willson Street intersection the group will also split in two to allow a platoon to go up Willson Street and clean up to Victoria Street.

Once they  are done , they will rejoin the rest of the group down McKenzie, swing left into Smith to meet Team A at the Victoria intersection by Boxer. From there both groups will proceed up Victoria, Team A on the right (taxi rank side) Team B on the left side (Golden Geese side).

The teams will go up Victoria. Upon reaching King Edward Street, Team A will divide up to allow a group to clean up past Spar up to Beaconsfield Street, do a u turn and rejoin their colleagues up to Victoria and proceed to the Tourism Dundee office.

Team B will continue up on the Hotel side of Victoria Street proceed around the traffic circle back to front of the Municipality and meet up at Tourism Dundee.

There a gazebo will be erected and Pierre will have ready the wors rolls etc

. Sponsored drinks will be given to the volunteers as they proceed cleaning up. Volunteers will hand in their stickers which will earn them a wors roll.

We would love the Mayor to address the group before dispersing as will TD chairman, Mr Gopie. During the march Mr Happiness will be addressing the community via a loud hailer highlighting the importance of keeping the town clean.

This will be one of the first of many envisaged clean up campaigns working in partnership with the Municipality.  In future areas such as Forestdale, Peacevale, Sibongile, Mpati, Berea, Strathmore, Wasbank and Glencoe will be targeted.
