DUNDEE KZN: SASSA grant scam surfaces
It is yet another scam doing the rounds

Barely a week after the Courier highlighted a slew of scams doing the rounds, yet another one has surfaced – aimed at fleecing the most desperate out of their cash.
The SMS/Whats App doing the rounds purports to be from the South African Social Security Agency, SASSA. The message goes like this:
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has approved the payment of R700 SASSA Grant Payment in June 2021, To all Citizen Across South Africa
This is part of SASSA 2021 budget to support all South Africa Citizen Registration Portal has been Opened and Payment has began Note : Check if your eligible to get R700 Click below to visit the official disbursment (SIC) site https://bit.ly/SASSA_FUND_GRANT
Batch B payment has been completed. As Batch C payment and registration is on going now!! Unfortunately the website highlighted takes the user to this page (if you can have anti-virus on your PC it will be prevented from opening with a warning)

It can be seen that the web address is not a Government. The prompts ask an applicant to pay over an application fee to ensure that their grant is processed which is not SASSA policy.
Anyone receiving such a message should not react to it. In recent weeks there has been a spike in scams – from the Standard Bank email scam, the Coca-Cola scam to the more elaborate minerals investment con. Readers are urged to be vigilant.
