Ladysmith KZN: Diamonds are forever… but not for this town
It doesn't look like Ladysmith will be the next Kimberley, unless there is a shortage of quartz crystals

Good day everybody! How are you all doing? Men, how is the hunting going? When can I expect my bag of biltong? Do not be afraid to use some extraordinary spices, okay? Enjoy your hunting rifle while you still can. Authorities might ban them soon if the new gun law gets approved.
Ladies, did you send out your men to go and find some ‘diamonds’ for you, because they are, after all, a girl’s best friend? It doesn’t look like Ladysmith will be the next Kimberley, unless there is a worldwide shortage for some quartz crystals. It is sad that there are no diamonds. ‘Diamonds are forever’ and it could’ve bought a new ‘forever’ for a lot of people and brought change to their lives. But, alas, that is just a pipe dream.
How many of you buy from CNA? When I read in the newspapers, it says the company that owns the franchise is struggling financially. We can’t let that happen. It’s the only place in town you can buy a book from.
Did Ladysmith also have a wage protest last week, like we did in Bergville? The roads were full of rubbish. Luckily, the strike wasn’t for long, and the streets and pavements are clean again. To all the readers above 60 years of age, I sincerely ask you to vaccinate. The quicker you get vaccinated, the quicker the other other age groups get a chance as well and we can stabilise again.
I’m happy that all the teachers are going to get vaccinated with the J&J shot, but I still think schools should close early while the third wave is increasing rapidly. Children can spread the virus among themselves and their households. How was Father’s Day this year? I must admit, my siblings and I finally got my old man the perfect gift. On the website ‘MyFanPark.com’, you can request to send a personal video to someone – at a certain price, of course.
We chose the Afrikaans singer Appel and he sent a one-minute video to my dad to wish him a Happy Father’s Day. Then we took him out for dinner at the Saleyard. It was a busy weekend. On Friday and Saturday, I was at the Impi Endurance Rally in the Northern Drakensberg. Riders from all over the country pitched up with their off-road motorbikes to ride the different trails in this event. There were different zones for different riders. This weekend was also the annual Berg & Bush.
On Sunday, the Round Table I’m involved in had a food stall near the Spionkop monument. This coming weekend, there should have been another Berg & Bush event, but it was cancelled because of Covid-19. That’s all from my side.
Have a great week. Till next time, cheers.
