This afternoon (July 7), a man was found dead near the railway tracks next to Cornflower Road in Smartiesville.

A resident was walking in the area when he spotted a shoe lying near the railway line. He walked closer and to his horror, he found an elderly man lying on his tummy, motionless and not breathing.

Police, Public Safety and the Forensics Department responded to the scene.

Residents in the area are in a state of shock after the grisly discovery.

A relative of the deceased, who was 68 years old, said, “This is unbelievable, as I saw him last night!”

The cause of death is unknown at this stage and police investigations are underway.
