DUNDEE KZN: Peter takes Rotary Club chain of office

Peter Kuyler has been named as the new president of the Rotary Club of Dundee. Peter was inducted as the new president of the club on July 3. The induction ceremony was a completely virtual affair due to Level 4 Covid-19 regulations, but was enjoyed by all nonetheless.

Peter’s term of office will be from July 1, 2021, to the end of June 2022. Peter joined the Rotary Club of Dundee on July 2, 2012, and has been a very active member for the past nine years. He has also served as the fund-raising director for the past eight years.

Peter has been very innovative and contributed some new ideas for fund-raising, like the Dundee Doggy Dawdle, which was held annually at Uelzen Primary School. Funds raised for the Doggy Dawdle were donated to the Dundee SPCA to help their ‘furry friends’.

Peter also introduced the ‘Save the Rhino’ project. Special T-shirts were sold to help raise money, which was donated to Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife in the form of products they could use to combat rhino poaching. Peter is also a keen cyclist and took the rhino project a step further by having cycle jerseys made. A few Rotarian cyclists wore these at the Cape Cycle Tour in Cape Town. He also had Rotary registered as a Charity Group and raised a lot of cash to help Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife in the process. Peter received the Paul Harris Award in July 2018 for his outstanding work in Rotary.

The Paul Harris Award is the highest award one can receive in Rotary. Well done, Peter! “The motto of Rotary for the next year is ‘Serve to change lives’ and we know that even though it is difficult during the current circumstances, Peter and his team will do everything possible to help the community,” a statement from Rotary read. Rotary wishes Peter and his board of directors for this year every success in the good work they do.
