DUNDEE KZN: Hundred up for Nquthu’s Gogo Ndaba

Gogo Ndaba says her secret to longevity is eating traditional food like ibece

July 26 marked a special day for Gogo Ndaba, as she reached the milestone age of 100!

To mark the occasion, MEC for Arts, Culture, Sport & Recreation Hlengiwe Mavimbela visited Nondweni in Nquthu to take a cake and gift to Gogo Ndaba.

“In the spirit of Mama uMaxeke, it is important for us to celebrate our centenarians and the role they play in society,” the MEC said.

“I first met Gogo Ndaba when I was here in Nondweni for Mandela Day celebrations. “It was encouraging to see her in good spirits and still able to walk on her own.

“Our centenarians play an important role in society, as they have indigenous knowledge which can be beneficial regarding how we do things in our times,” the MEC added.

Gogo Ndaba says her secret to longevity is eating traditional food like ibece. She was grateful to be honoured on her birthday.
