Ladysmith KZN: MEC thanks those who volunteered to save the town

The MEC stressed that the focus should now be on how the province moves forward from this setback

All stakeholders who took part in stopping the looting in Ladysmith during the recent ‘Free Zuma protests’ had the opportunity to meet KZN MEC for Economic Development & Tourism Ravi Pillay last weekend.

MEC Pillay visited Ladysmith on Saturday, July 31, and met with all the stakeholders who volunteered to be on the ground during the unrest. The meeting was held in Council Chambers.

The stakeholders included the Ladysmith Chamber of Commerce, Klipriver Taxi Association and Community Policing Forums (CPFs).

Pillay then visited the crematorium, which suffered major damages during the unrest when it was vandalised and set on fire. Next on the itinerary was the Defy factory and Ezakheni Plaza.

The MEC stressed that the focus should now be on how the province moves forward from this setback, emphasising that government has plans to help those businesses that need assistance. This applies especially to small businesses that couldn’t afford insurance.
