NEWCASTLE KZN: Beat the exam stress with these five easy steps
Learners (and their parents) need only follow a few simple tips and reap the rewards.
With end-year exams underway or set to begin soon, learners’ stress levels are sure to be at an all-time high.
When homework and studying seem unrelenting, it is easy to panic and be completely adrift. However, learners (and their parents) need only follow a few simple tips and reap the rewards.
Here are our top five tips for exam preparation and how to sail through exams with ease:
- Make sure you have a nice quiet spot in the house specifically designated for studying – this space should be quiet and well-lit, and be relatively free from distractions
- Divide study time into sections – long periods of study can be exhausting, and as a result, will eventually limit the amount of info you consume, so be sure to take a break every 30 minutes or so
- Parents: check in with children on a regular basis to see if they need help understanding something – make a point of encouraging them to seek assistance from a teacher or adult so they can comprehend what they are learning
- Parents: ensure your child is getting enough sleep – a lack of sleep has a significant impact on the brain’s ability to concentrate (lavender or any similar natural products can help improve sleep, especially at exam time)
- Parents: encourage your child to exercise – they should also eat healthily and eat ‘brain foods’ such as fish and legumes, which can help them concentrate.
