VRYHEID KZN: Local cyclists rule the podium in Ladysmith

Congratulations to Duncan de Villiers, who finished with the top riders

Saturday was race day in Ladysmith and the race-hungry cyclists of Vryheid attended in numbers. Ladysmith hosted a super 45km mountain bike ride in a game reserve. It was a really hot day, with the mercury reaching 34 degrees! It was also quite a technical route, with 800m of climbing over the 45km distance.

Although the route was tough and technical, this was not a deterrent to the Vryheid riders, who took on the race with guts and determination.

In the men’s division, Vryheid took all three places on the podium.
First: Vlam de Beer.
Second: Ernest Franzen.
Third: Hannes van Staden.

In the ladies’ race, Sandra Haywood placed second. Fourth place was shared by two sisters, Suzette Leach and Mariska de Villiers.

The other cyclists also had a really good ride! Congratulations to Duncan de Villiers, who finished with the top riders.
