Mediclinic Newcastle amends visiting hours

Amendments have been made to the current visitation arrangement as a result of the increasing number of Covid-19 cases presenting for care.

Mediclinic Newcastle has amended its visiting hours.

This was confirmed in a statement released by Dr Gerrit de Villiers, Chief Clinical Officer of Mediclinic Southern Africa.

“Amendments have been made to the current visitation arrangement as a result of the increasing number of Covid-19 cases presenting for care within the local community,” explained Dr de Villiers.

He added that Mediclinic believed the safety of patients and staff was of the utmost importance.

“The revised visitor measures will limit the risk of infection for our patients. This decision will be reviewed and adjusted as necessary.”

The following will now apply:
  • One visitor per patient will continue to have access to non-Covid-19 patients between 15:00 and 16:00 daily
  • Visitation for Covid-19 positive or suspected Covid-19 patients is restricted
  • However, exceptions will be made where possible and safe, for critically ill patients
  • Arrangements for NICU, Obstetrics and Paediatric units remain in place.

“Mediclinic will continue to support engagement with family and friends through electronic communication channels. This will encourage vital support that these relationships provide in the healing process,” said Dr de Villiers.

Mediclinic Newcastle has implored the community to strictly adhere to all recommended measures to reduce the risk of infection.

This includes masking in public, social distancing, and avoiding congested public areas.

“We ask that individuals stay at home if they are unwell to reduce the risk for vulnerable members of our community,” concluded Dr de Villiers.
