A regular ‘Clash of the Titans’ with fishing rods as weapons

Yudveer Naransamy of Breakwaters AC was the 'Angler of the Day', accumulating 15 points to receive the purple cap, trophy and R200.

It was dubbed the ‘Clash of the Titans’, as both Breakwaters Angling Club (AC) and Challengers AC were determined to earn the title of ‘AA Coaches Knock-Out Champions’.
Going into the tail end of the season, Challengers AC had re-grouped and their confidence was at an all-time high, as they had won the last round of the Mohamed Midas League at Richgate Park, which was fished on February 6. Breakwaters on the other hand, being the current KO champions, were equally determined to retain their title and add this to their league silverware.
The first four vehicles in the queue were from Challengers AC and that showed their determination to wrest the title from the ‘favourites’.
The two captains eagerly awaited the draw of the zones, with a combination of Zone C and D chosen.

Anglers dashed to their favourite spots and it was time to execute all the plans, strategies and combinations they had pondered for many months after the semi-final encounter on December 12. Chelmsford Dam lived up to its notorious reputation of being the greatest leveller, with some anglers registering the dreaded zero against their names on the score sheet.

Tension was clearly visible at the weigh-in, as both clubs had many nets. However, it was the mass of fish that mattered. Challengers AC were first to weigh their fish, accumulating 84 points. Next was the turn of Breakwaters AC, who hoped that they were on ‘fire’, as depicted on their outfits.

Once they had passed the 84-point mark, there was a sense of relief, with the final tally being 131 points. Both clubs should be commended for their keen sense of rivalry and sportsmanship displayed throughout the competition.

The APL expresses its sincere appreciation to Ahmed Yusuf Amedjee and family of AA Coaches for their continued sponsorship of the Knock-Out Competition and Grand Challenge.

The next fixture of the APL will be the AA Coaches Grand Challenge between Breakwaters AC and Dannhauser AC at Richgate Park on March 13. Much is at stake, as Breakwaters are determined to be crowned triple champions for the second season in succession, while Dannhauser AC will pull out all the stops, as they regard Richgate Park as their ‘home ground’ and want to end the season by securing the last piece of silverware on offer. This has the makings of another fascinating encounter between the ‘favourites’ and the ‘outsiders’.
Good luck to both these clubs.
