What happened to equality by Halalisani Shoba

The same government that is failing to create job opportunities, is satisfied with the likes of Bathabile Dlamini splashing the taxpayer’s money like it is nobody’s business.

Halalisani Shoba

What is happening in our “beloved” country, reminds me of the famous words by George Orwell when he said, “All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others”. We are living on the same farm but we are not equal. Are we even living on the same farm? I doubt! Our justice system has yet again proven that we are not equal before the law here in South Africa.

The law favours those who are rich, actually, they are not rich but they enrich themselves with taxpayer’s money. How come Bathabile Dlamini was given an option to choose between paying the fine of R200 000 and serving the sentence of 4 years behind bars? Since when the culprit gets to choose the deserving punishment? Or it is just another way of justifying that, indeed the law favours the rich and excludes the poor? As we have seen it happening with the case of Sibongile Mane who was unfairly accused of STEALING the NSFAS money. She didn’t even steal the money but it was ‘mistakenly’ transferred into her account. I mean who does that, how do you transfer R14 000 000 instead of R1 400 by mistake? Unless you are used to do such mistakes, then it is understandable. This thing of being taken for granted in our own country by the people we once trusted with our vote is really starting to take another horrible shape.

We are not puppets! The same government that is failing to create job opportunities, is satisfied with the likes of Bathabile Dlamini splashing the taxpayer’s money like it is nobody’s business. These people are misusing state resources and it is clear that all politicians and those who are privileged, will continue to benefit from taxpayers’ money with the option to pay fines for their crimes. Our justice system is nothing but a joke, but it is not surprising at all.

Now we know that it is FINE to lie under oath because that is exactly what they’ve been doing. In many parts of South Africa, thousands of people are faced with the sad reality of poverty. I was so shocked to learn that SARS collected R1.564 trillion in the 2021/2022 financial year R1.564 trillion, yet according to the latest unemployment figures, over 3 million young people are unemployed, out of school. So who is fooling who in this country? R1.564 trillion is enough to fix and restore our country but as usual, it seems like Christmas came early to those who are corrupt with no moral sense of what is right and wrong. This is not the ideal farm we dreamt of. When are we going to taste the fruits of freedom? We want equality in our lifetime.
