WARNING: Amcor Dam road temporarily closed –

Ashok Anandhaw, the Chief Traffic Officer at the municipal Community Safety division, has issued a strong warning to motorists to stay away from Umfolozi Avenue (the Amcor Dam road) between the industrial precinct and Ncandu Park.

After torrential rains caused the Amcor Dam to flood the route, the road has been closed to motorists,” he explained.

Two vehicles were already stranded in the rising waters earlier today, confirmed Anandhaw. He claimed motorists had removed the barrier tape strung across the road and then attempted to cross the low bridge.

Any motorists or individuals caught removing or tampering with the caution tape will face the wrath of the law, which might include a hefty fine or even arrest.”

Anadhaw is advising motorists to avoid driving in the current weather conditions as far as possible, or to at least drive cautiously and keep a safe following distance to avoid collisions.

He further encouraged locals to take extra precautions when heating their rooms or homes during the frigid weather, since Community Safety has responded to a number of house fires over the weekend.
